At FAM Flower Farm, we strive to grow the most beautiful flowers with as little impact on the environment as possible. Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do—from our farm practices to the packaging of our products. Every day, we work on improvements that contribute to a healthy planet, thriving biodiversity, and fair trade.

Our 6 core principles are:

1 - Enhancing Biodiversity

By cultivating flowers naturally, we contribute to a rich biodiversity in our environment and that of our customers.

• Our flowers extend the blooming season and are a source of nectar for bees, butterflies, and other insects.

• With every bulb or tuber you plant, you help increase biodiversity in your own garden.

2 - Healthy Soil

Our farm revolves around maintaining fertile and healthy soil. Strong roots result in more resilient plants, helping to prevent diseases and eliminate the need for chemical pesticides.

• Soil Testing: We regularly analyze our soil to address deficiencies using natural fertilizers.

• Crop Rotation: We rotate crops per plot to prevent soil depletion, returning to the same plot with the same crop only once every five years.

• Collaboration: By exchanging plots with other growers, we keep our soil healthy and fertile.

3 - Minimal Packaging:

We believe in reducing waste and choose sustainable packaging:

• Plastic-Free: Our flower bulbs and dahlia tubers are packaged 100% plastic-free.

• Reuse: Cardboard boxes we receive are reused as filling material.

• Recycling: Excess plastic is processed through specialized recycling programs.

4 - Social Responsibility:

Fair trade and respect for people and nature are central to our philosophy.

• We pay fair prices and ensure good working conditions for everyone in our supply chain.

• Our "On the Way to Planet Proof" certification encourages us to continuously improve.

5 - Water Management & Organic Solutions

We use water and crop protection methods as efficiently and sustainably as possible.

• No Tap Water: We utilize rainwater, groundwater, and ditch water when needed.

• Organic Crop Protection: We annually test new organic solutions for managing diseases, pests, and weeds.

• No Neonicotinoids: We have not used these harmful substances for years.

6 - Technology and Energy

With innovative technology, we reduce our use of energy and resources.

• Solar Energy: We have solar panels on the barns of both frams.

• LED Lighting: All our lighting is energy-efficient.

• Energy Screens: Our greenhouses are equipped with energy screens that filter sunlight during the day and retain heat at night.

 Hubert, Marlies’ husband, has over 30 years of experience growing dahlias.
